The Landrum-Griffin Act of 1959

In 1959, Congress enacted another federal statute relevant to labor law, the Landrum-Griffin Act. This law deals with curbing corruption in labor unions, rather than union-employer relationship directly. The most significant provisions of the Landrum-Griffin Act include a “bill of rights” for union members, regulation of internal union elections and measures to ensure democratic processes for selection of union leaders, and protection of union funds to ensure that they will be used only for the benefit of union members.
