There is no “one” agency that enforces all employment-law statutes. However, Employment rights granted by statutes, regulations, ordinances, and executive orders are often enforced by government agencies to state and local agencies. First, different federal agencies enforce federal statutes and regulations, and different state agencies enforce legislative enactments and regulations. Second, Local Agencies work in conjunction with and assist federal and state departments investigate and enforce employment rights.
Examples:
- The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) enforces a single federal statute: the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).
- The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) only enforces a single state statute, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act (PHRA).
- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) enforces several federal statutes that concern various types of employment discrimination, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Equal Pay Act, and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA).
